Mission: EPISODE 1: SHAKEDOWN
Location: Counselors Office

Marques sat in the waiting room of the counseling offices for his appointment. There was a little drama getting across the Klingon border, but overall everything was in the clear. The Lieutenant was all about doing his job and following orders. But something about helping the Klingons, just seemed wrong. It had been a while, since he last spoke with a counselor regarding his feelings about the Klingons.

"Lieutenant Hunt?" Gianna popped her head out from her office and called out for the next person she was meant to be seeing. Not only was he the Chief FCO but he was the Second Officer as well, so doubly impressive, and was someone new for her to meet. "Come in, take a seat."

Entering the room, Marques did a quick visual scan of the room before taking a seat. "How are you today counselor?"

Gia had to think about it for a moment before she took a tentative seat, "I am... probably a little too overcaffeinated today, if I'm being honest. Call me Gia, by the way. Can I offer you a drink or something to eat before we get chatting?"

"Green tea please," he requested. "And please, call me Marques."

"Amazing, it's good to meet you, Marques." Gia said in a light tone as she busied herself for a few moments getting the tea ready. She didn't mind green tea personally, but coffee would always win out.

Gia brought the tea back and placed it on the coffee table in front of the Lieutenant before taking her seat again. "There you go, i hope it's to your liking." Resuming a more comfortable position, she added, "So, starting off with the obvious question: what brings you hear today to see me?"

Picking up the mug, Marques took a seat. "Now that's excellent. To get straight to the point, I hate the Klingons."

Gia was slightly taken back by his bluntness but decided to only let it show through a raised brow. "That's a rather strong feeling to have, but I suppose there's no reason to beat around the bush now, is there." She shifted to sit a bit more comfortably before adding. "Do you care to share the why?"

"They killed my cousin on the USS Grissom years ago," he admitted. "And after that I still didn't completely hate them. But after years of fighting with them. So many friends and fellow crew members dying to them. My view of them has to turned to hate or perhaps more like a very strong dislike."

She nodded in reply, listening to what he was saying. "It's perfectly understandable to have that kind of a reaction and I understand that it has tainted your views of them as a race, but putting everything everyone else has experienced aside, if you were to come face to face with a Klingon now, how do you think you would react to them?"

"My first instinct would be to prepare to defend myself," Marques answered honestly. "Never been in a situation where a Klingon wasn't trying to kill me. Outside of that, can remain calm around them and cordial."

"I understand that," Gia nodded, "Given that we're going to the Klingon home world, there are going to be some individuals who aren't going to like Starfleet being there so things may be tense, which I'm sure you already know, but I have no doubt you'll be able to keep a level head and not let these feelings surface?"

Marques was a little hesitant to speak but decided to just say what was on his mind. "I believe in following orders. But honestly I have serious doubt that these accords are even worth the trouble."

"I believe there are going to be significant positive long-term effects with them, Lieutenant," Gia replied in a warm tone, "For one, we have peace. And two, these Accords validate the Federations core values, if you remember what they are: Diplomacy, mutual respect, and peaceful co-existence. Klingons believe in honor and glory, so I have no doubt they'll honor this."

"Diplomacy, mutual respect and peaceful co-existence doesn't describe a Klingon at all," he chuckled. "Desperation is what made them call for help. Once they get back on their feet, it will be business as usual."

"Well unfortunately, Lieutenant, you can't tar every Klingon with the same brush." Gia pointed out. "And don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to invalidate your opinion in any way. If anything, I'm glad you're feeling comfortable enough to voice your concerns around it."

"So, with that being said, do you have anything else you would like to bring into this conversation we're having today?" She sipped the coffee again and held it, "I can have it be on the record or off, completely your choice."

"I am grateful that the fighting with the Klingons have come to an end for now," Hunt admitted. "And honestly, I hope this works out for the best. Certainly don't want my little brother or any future children of mine still out here fighting."

Taking a moment to think about his next question. Hunt to just let it out. "My next question, off the record. My cousin Maurice is wanted by the Federation for crimes against the Klingon Empire. A good man, who could never get over the death of his father to the hands of the Klingons. Not sure how to feel about his situation."

"That's a difficult one to speak on, especially when it comes to family." Gia admitted. "Grief has a funny way of steering people on a course that leads them in a less-than-ideal direction like what's happened with your cousin." She put the cup off to the side and continued, "Off the record, I would say it would be wise for you to stay out of it, lest you get tangled up in it all too. Support him from afar, but any direct contact with him could potentially jeopardise yourself. Does that kind of make sense?

"That actually makes a lot of sense," Marques admitted. "Going to just focus on myself and let him sort it out. Hopefully he doesn't get himself killed. I appreciate the pep talk counselor."
